Migrante Canada joins our kababayan in the Philippines and around the world in condemning the Senate's vote to remand the articles of impeachment. This is an utter violation of the constitutional process and an absolute betrayal of public trust.
What the Senate did was UNACCEPTABLE! The Senate, under the leadership of Chiz Escudero, have yet again disappointed the Filipino people. Instead of upholding the constitution and pushing for accountability, the Senate chose to uphold impunity.
The Senate's sole duty is to FORTWITH PROCEED WITH THE TRIAL (Sec. 4 par. 4, Article XI, Philippine Constitution).
The Senate grossly failed, not just the fundamental law, but the will of the Filipino people.
Time and time again, the people in power continue to abuse their government positions for their personal gains, for the benefit of the few political dynasties -- all to maintain this rotten system of impunity.
Migrante Canada urges all freedom-loving Filipinos, workers, students, community leaders, and civil society organizations to raise their voices and demand conviction, and to hold the Senate accountable to their constitutional obligations. This is not simply about one politician—it is about defending the integrity of public office, restoring accountability in governance, and standing against impunity. We must collectively express our utmost indignation over this absolute public betrayal.
The Filipino people deserve truth, justice, and accountability. We must not allow the Senate to protect the powerful at the expense of the people.
Convict Sara Duterte. Hold her accountable. Reclaim our democracy.###
