Marcos Jr #1 tuta, korap, pasista at taga benta ng kayamanan ng bayan!

Migrante Canada Statement

June 29, 2026

Migrante Canada vehemently denounces the upcoming Official Visit of human rights violator, fascist, and plunderer Ferdinand “Bong Bong” Marcos Jr.

His profiteering junket comes at a time when the Philippines is faced with the worsening economic and political crises that continues to burden the vast majority of the Filipino people.

Marcos Jr has been in power since 2022 and yet his administration, just like his father’s, remains a legacy of corruption and human rights abuses.

Marcos Jr. won along with Sara Duterte under the “UNITEAM” faction. The intensifying factional conflict between the “UNITEAM” of the Marcos and Duterte camps led to the dissolution of the faction, exposing the greedy rationale of their “partnership” – the pursuit of ruling power and the vast governance and financial perks it yields. All while the Filipino people are left in a dire economic situation.

For many decades, the Philippine state has depended on Overseas Filipinos’ remittances as a lifeline for its failing economy. An estimated 500,000 Filipinos living in Canada send money home on a regular basis. According to the most recent data, in the first ten months of 2025, cash remittances to the Philippines by Filipinos living abroad, including those in Canada, totaled US $29.2 billion. Over $1 billion, or 3.5 percent, of remittances from January to October came from money transfers from Canada.

All the while, overseas Filipinos in Canada are facing various challenges from ever changing immigration policies (e.g. the recent passing of Bill C-12), high cost of living, labour exploitation and trafficking, illegal recruitment practices of unscrupulous recruitment agencies, workplace issues, family-separation, and the increasing demand to remain in precarious working and living conditions just to keep up with remittances, among others. These exploitation and hardships are exacerbated by the continued state abandonment of overseas Filipinos in Canada through the ultra-bureaucratic processes in acquiring government assistance for distressed migrants, leaving them to rely on their individual capacities in resolving their issues.

The story and struggle of Mary Jane Veloso is a clear example of how Filipinos are forced to seek employment abroad due to the failing economy back home and when she faced wrongful conviction abroad, the Philippine government, instead of protecting her by pushing for her freedom and clemency, brought her back to the Philippines just to keep her in another prison ward.

Contrary to the press release the Philippine government released regarding the BBM’s official visit to Canada, BBM’s intention is not to promote the welfare and interest of overseas Filipinos, nor is he coming here for the benefit and interest of Filipinos back home. BBM is coming to Canada to sell out Philippines resources, land, and even the Filipino people. Under his administration, fascist attacks against legal activists, Indigenous and peasants in the countryside have intensified. Any security agreement to be signed with Canada will continue to put more Filipinos in grave danger.

Clearly, the Philippine government has and will never be on the side of overseas Filipinos and Filipinos in general – even more so under the Marcos Jr. regime.

Migrante Canada enjoins all Migrante chapters and member organizations, as well as our fellow overseas Filipinos, friends, and allies to denounce Marcos Jr’s visit and expose its real intent of selling the Philippines and the Filipino people. We join BAYAN Canada’s National Day of Action on July 1st to expose and oppose Marcos Jr’s visit to Canada.
