In the Face of Injustice: Migrants Unite and Fight Back!

ree

MIGRANTE CANADA | July 25, 2025

The recent Supreme Court ruling favouring Vice President Sara Duterte is yet another confirmation of a rotten political system that protects the powerful while silencing the people. The Supreme Court  declared the articles of impeachment against VP Sara Duterte unconstitutional on due process grounds, that it was not absolving VP Duterte from any of the charges against her  but that “any subsequent impeachment complaint may only be filed starting February 6, 2026.”

“For Filipino migrant workers, this is painful reminder, again, that justice will never come from a system built to oppress us,” said Danilo de Leon, Chairperson of Migrante Canada. “When our families back home suffer because  of corruption, when our rights as overseas workers are violated, and when the courts back home only serve the elites and the powerful — migrant workers are left with no choice but to continue to organize and collectively fight back.”

Migrante Canada emphasized that Filipino migrants are not detached from the political crisis in the Philippines. On the contrary, they are directly affected by the decisions of an elite-run government that drives millions abroad through forced migration, only to abandon them once they leave.

“We refuse to remain silent while the Marcos-Duterte regime protects plunderers and represses critics,” de Leon continued. “The Supreme Court ruling is part of a wider system of impunity that we, as migrant workers, must continue to confront through collective action, solidarity, and resistance.”

Sara Duterte, Panagutin!

Marcos, Singilin!
